Maria Proctor of the Qld Humanists has advised us of a protest to be held a Parliament House, Brisbane on Tuesday, 13 April at 8.30am.
I know it’s a difficult day and time, but if any of you would like to join me there, it would be great to see you. I think this is an important cause and it would be good to give it our support.
Get Secular Back in the Act – Protest
Start Date/Time: Tuesday, April 13, 2010 8:30 AM
End Date/Time: Tuesday, April 13, 2010 10:30 PM
WE WANT INCLUSIVE SCHOOL COMMUNITIES!
WE WANT A PUBLIC EDUCATION SYSTEM THAT IS FREE, SECULAR AND WELCOME TO ALL!
Protest against 100 years of religious privilege in Queensland!
When introduced in 1875, the Queensland Education Act guaranteed a free and secular education for every child. A controversial referendum in 1910 allowed ministers of religion to conduct religious instruction and bible lessons. Every incidence of the word secular was removed from the Act. During the succeeding 100 years this amendment has resulted in religion (particularly Christianity) being given a privleged position within our education system. We want to see an education system that respects the right of children to freedom of religion and belief.
Join us at the gates of Parliament House from 8:30 am!
Speakers at the protest will include Dr Max Wallace and HSQ President, Maria Proctor.

Wear the freethought and secular colours of yellow and purple to show your support!
Photos from the Global Atheist Convention in Melbourne, 13th and 14th March 2010
Top are Karen, Luke, Vicki, Chrys and Warren, being the serious, upstanding atheists that we are.
Middle is Warren, thrilled to be talking to AC Anthony “Giggles” Grayling
Bottom is Karen and Vicki kissing PZ Myers after we ambushed him at the Saturday night dinner
Here’s some video footage I took at the convention. The media said we all sat around backslapping and being mean to the religious. As you can see, we were having too much fun for that.
PZ Myers has featured the video – and our special kiss photo – on his blog at Pharyngula.
This is website that features all the godless shenanigans of the Sunshine Coast Atheists. Aren’t you glad it exists? And we can prove that this blog exists, you know.
Stay tuned for further fun and games in which we get together, discuss fascinating topics, enjoy good food and wine and also engage in positive action to promote secularism, human rights and reason!
